Data Retrieval Corporation (DRC) is pleased to announce its new SPIDR DX pressure gauge. This latest generation SPIDR retains its familiar rugged housing but incorporates several significant enhancements over earlier generations. Most significant of the enhancements is a ten-fold increase in memory from 500,000 samples to 5,000,000 samples. This increase in memory will allow a SPIDR sampling once per second to gather data for 57 days before filling memory. By adding a pressure window for intelligent sampling, or by reducing the sampling frequency, the SPIDR can be programmed to monitor a well for a year or longer.
Along with increased memory capacity, the battery life of the SPIDR has been doubled from 5 million to 10 million samples on a set of three alkaline "D" cells. When sampling in "Intelligent" mode, the SPIDR stores or rejects new samples based on the amount of pressure change from the last stored sample. A rejected sample uses the same amount of battery capacity as a stored sample. A SPIDR that has 50,000 samples in memory may actually have taken as many as 1,500,000 samples. For that reason, it is important the battery capacity exceed the memory capacity.
A key factor in improving battery life in the SPIDR is the new internal pressure transducer that samples ten times faster than the previous transducer. The new transducer not only provides better repeatability in pressure readings but also allows the SPIDR to sample two external transducers during the one second sample interval. This capability makes the SPIDR ideal for pre-fracture injection testing which allows the SPIDR to not only monitor injection and fall-off pressure but also allows recording turbine meter pulses during the injection phase. The SPIDR software then converts the pulses into injection rates and volumes.
The new SPIDR DX also incorporates a "pressure trigger" that allows a SPIDR to automatically start sampling if it sees a pressure greater than 100 PSI, even if the SPIDR was programmed to start at a later date.
The SPIDR DX is yet another example DRC’s commitment to improving upon our gauge technology, which is already considered the most reliable and accurate available on the market today.
