Pricing and Risk Considerations in Using the SPIDR

By Rod Kelly | Thu, 27 Aug 2009

Our marketing & promotion strategy for non-intervention SPIDR testing has principally been via our simple yet effective statement that says ěTesting from the wellhead provides the operator with a NO RISK and LOW COST alternative to the conventional methods of running a pressure gauge on wire downhole to the reservoirî in gas & gas condensate wells.

Deeper, hotter, higher pressure, and more sour conditions at the well, will combine to increase the price and risk differentiation between our service and conventional services.  Depending on our customerís specific situation, one or both of those factors lead people to our technology.

We have designed a pressure gauge of such simple design that it can be immediately installed by someone with no previous experience with the equipment.  This means that we are able to ship the gauge around the world for installation by people who neither read nor speak English.  Utilizing the customerís existing field personnel enables us to keep the costs of running a SPIDR as low as possible.

DRC also strives to keep pricing as simple as possible.  We typically only have three (3) charges for the end user.

  1. Daily Rental: Onshore, offshore USA or International pricing.  Rental charges begin when the customer indicates to us that they want to begin their test (via pre-programmed gauge) and ends when they hand the equipment back to Fed-Ex for return shipping.
  2. Report Charge: Cost to convert surface pressures to BHP and analyze the converted data set.
  3. Fed-Ex charge: Cost to overnight ship to domestic USA or ship international express (3-4 day delivery).

We have customers that often will only compare the rental cost of our gauge vs. the downhole gauge and do not consider the ADDITIONAL cost of mobilizing equipment, mileage and personnel fees for running equipment downhole.  To make a true cost comparison, all costs associated with running gauges downhole should be taken into consideration when comparing to the rental cost of the SPIDR.

The case that Data Retrieval Corporation can make to the customer is, not only can our service provide you with a NO RISK and LOW COST alternative to conventional pressure data capture methods;  our ability to accurately convert surface data via our proprietary conversion algorithm often allows us to provide the customer with ědownholeî quality pressure data.

In this era of low commodity pricing and expense reductions, it should be comforting to know there is a proven alternative to the conventional method of collecting downhole pressure data suitable for use in Pressure Transient Analysis.
