Boundary Determination

Boundary Determination

A common transient test in a high permeability gas wells is a Boundary or “limits” test.  We are seeking to understand the geometry of the reservoir via a fixed rate flow test.  We would normally recommend performing this test as early in the life of the producing well as possible and immediately after the well is cleaned up and brought on production.

Because the permeability is high, you are able to “see” far into the reservoir over a relatively short period of time.  This will allow you to quickly understand the size/shape of your reservoir and will allow comparison with your 3D generated Seismic image.  Gas Volumes can be estimated from transient tests and compared against volumes estimated solely from seismic generated information.  Because it can be performed on a producing well, this test is often favored over other types of tests that require the well to be shut-in.
